New Meeting Location: NextSpace Culver CityLAdobe is pleased to announce that after our July 28 meeting at Border Stylo in Hollywood, which is in the process of relocating, the rest of our meetings for 2011 (not including the October 1 mega-event, Sidekick) will take place at NextSpace, a new co-location facility located on the corner of Main and Culver Blvds. in downtown Culver City. We’re pleased to be working with such a great new facility in a thriving part of LA. There are many parking lots available in the area all offering at least two hours free parking and many of the parking meters nearby are timed out at 6pm with others going off a 7 or 8pm. Downtown Culver City has a thriving restaurant scene including such standouts as Tender Greens, Ugo, Rush Street, City Tavern, Native Foods, Bottlerock and many more. So it’s a great idea to plan a nice dinner or Happy Hour prior to our meetings or a late night drink afterwards. So start planning for our first event at NextSpace on Thursday, August 25 with Photoshop guru Stephen Burns and we’ll see in Downtown Culver City!

R.I.P. MiniMAX….Hello, Sidekick!

guccione 278x300 R.I.P. MiniMAX....Hello, Sidekick! On June 30th, LAdobe held its’ first ever Summertime Mixer at Steingarten LA to a great success. One of the reasons we were there was to ring in our latest Photoshop Idol for 2011 and inaugurate the new brand identity for our annual MiniMAX event each October around the Adobe MAX conference for the locals. So this year’s challenge was doubly as difficult as in years’ past.

Fortunately, we had some really great entries and it was just difficult enough to come up with a final three. However, we ended up with the finalists, Harold Buchman, Kimberly Guccione and Ed Ward, who was also a finalist last year as well. After last year’s dilemma of a dead heat, the rules were altered slightly so that 51% of the final score would come from the professional judges and the other 49% would come from the audience. Again, a very close vote and if we hadn’t altered the rules, we may still be determining a winner right now.

However, we do have this year’s Photoshop Idol! And it is Kimberly Guccione of Pasadena who won for her ‘Sidekick’ entry featuring clean and sharp lines of red and black. Kimberly won a series of eBooks from O’Reilly and an Alien Skin plugin, a limited edition Photoshop long sleeve shirt and of course…the biggie….a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 5! Congrats to Kimberly and congrats to our new name for MiniMAX….SIDEKICK! Get used to it and get ready for Sidekick on October 1st!

schmidt 300x201 July 28: Adobes Kevin Schmidt on Enterprise RIAsJoin LAdobe on Thursday night, July 28 at 7pm at Border Stylo at 729 Seward St. in Hollywood. Parking is available on the street for free after 6pm and the agency also has a private lot they may open for members to park as well. Remember, all LAdobe events and meetings are always free to attend with no RSVP required.

For this meeting, we’re pleased to bring in another great presenter from Adobe. Kevin Schmidt is a Solution Engineer with Adobe focusing on Enterprise RIA’s (Rich Internet Applications) and mobile application development utilizing the Adobe Digital Enterprise Platform for the public sector in Washington DC. It’s not Kevin’s first time speaking in LA. Back in 2005, he was part of the panel at MiniMAX 3 in Venice, CA that October.

Enterprise RIA’s are hot! And Adobe has the best in class tooling for building Enterprise RIA’s! For our July preso, we’ll focus on that as Kevin will explain and inform as you’ll get the chance to  learn about building Enterprise RIA’s with Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 and the new Adobe Digital Enterprise Platform.

The evening will feature free drinks courtesy of Function, Zenify, as well as Groundwork Coffee courtesy of Border Stylo. We also plan to give away a couple of Adobe Flash Catalyst in addition to Alien Skin plugins and a variety of books from our usual book sponsors. If you’re into mobile web development and Flash and Flex Rich Internet Apps in general, you need to come out to this event on July 28 in Hollywood.
